Caregivers

There have been changes in Canada's famous live-in caregiver program from 30th November, 2014. Applications received after that date must apply through the new system. In the new programs the condition to live-in have been removed and all the jobs must go through the LMIA process.

Under the new caregivers, there are two ways to apply permanent residence through caregiver programs:



Caring for children pathway:

  • Must have atleast 24 months of full time work experience in Canada in the four years (48 months as Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses, Licenced medical nurses, Nurse aids, orderlies, and patient service associates, Home support workers and related occupations.
  • Licenced to work in Canada from the applicable regulatory body.
  • Must prove ability in English or French for speaking, reading, listening and writing and demonstrate that ability through standardized testing systems.
  • Must have completed a Canadian post-secondary education credential of atleast 1 year or an equivalent foreign diploma for which an original Educational assessment (ECA) is available.

Caring for people with high medical needs:

  • Atleast 24 months of full time experience in Canada as home child care provider in the last 4 years before application.
  • Must prove ability in intermediate level (CLB5) through stanrdized testing system in English or French.
  • Must have completed a Canadian post-secondary education credential of atleast 1 year or an equivalent foreign diploma for which an original Educational assessment (ECA) is available.
